Censored by Medium: Tracy Twyman was silenced, and I was censored
Search engines buried my story.
This is the second of my two articles on occult researcher Tracy Twyman that were taken down by Medium. I don’t know when the censorship happened, but it was at at least a year after they were published. Twyman died on July 9, 2019. I published Tracy Twyman and What We’re Up Against this six days later, and this piece two days after that: July 17, 2019. I’ve made no changes.
I was writing something else, but in passing mentioned that on Sunday, while yet another Trump controversy erupted, Tracy Twyman’s death was on my mind. And I was going to embed the link to what I published on Monday about Tracy, right here on Medium.
I didn’t have that article in a tab already, so I figured I’d pull the article up with the simple Google search: tracy twyman james leroy wilson.
No relevant results. So I added the word medium to the search. Still no results.
So I put her name and my name in separate quotes. Here’s what I got:
Rational Review is well-established, and Wendy McElroy’s site carries its feed. Rational Review usually runs my pieces, and I’ve very appreciative. It provides snippets of articles then links to the originals. In this case, it went to my original at Medium.
But why isn’t my original at Medium not at the top of the Google search? Why isn’t it appearing at all?
Curiosity piqued, I went full-on search: “tracy twyman and what we’re up against” “james leroy wilson” medium. Same result as above, minus the Facebook result.
So I went to DuckDuckGo, which has the reputation of objective search results, and re-started the search with the same steps I took with Google. I got similar results, culminating in this:
So now I’m wondering. Is it Medium? Is it me?
I searched: james leroy wilson Kavanaugh. Here were the top results:
James Leroy Wilson Kaepernick:
James Leroy Wilson LeBron:
Okay, maybe my Twyman story was published too recently. It’s from two days ago. I searched what I published yesterday:
James Leroy Wilson Eric Garner:
Finally, just James Leroy Wilson:
You get the picture. My Twyman piece, and only my Twyman piece, was buried. You’d have to go to my Medium page, or be a reader of Rational Review, to know it exists at all.
This seems consistent with my own searches of Tracy Twyman over the past five days. The first page of her Google results gives just one result saying she has died. Google News has nothing about her. “Tracy Twyman dead” has no result newer than four days, which links back to a six day-old story. There has been no news since her death was reported by two websites a week ago.
Was I the only one writing about her? I find that hard to believe. Are search engines burying what others wrote about Tracy, as they did to what I wrote? Does that explain all the silence about her death?
I don’t know who’s doing this, for what reason, or why, but I have my suspicions. The communities and audiences Tracy had were on the fringe. Tracy was silenced, and perhaps through this form of censorship they feel they can silence us.
I’ll find out in a day or two if this piece gets the same treatment my previous one did.
So, in case you missed it, here’s what I wrote about Tracy on Monday.
UPDATE July 18, 2019: Google searches of Tracy and myself now get the appropriate results. Not so with DuckDuckGo, Bing, or Yahoo.
UPDATE July 21, 2019: A Google search of Tracy Twyman now has this article on the first page of results. This article you’re now reading leads off DuckDuckGo’s search of “Tracy Twyman” “James Leroy Wilson,” but the previous article doesn’t appear on the first page of results. That is true of Yahoo and Bing as well.
